Best Things To Do in Zagreb

Zagreb, Croatia’s largest city and capital, is the most common city for international flight arrivals and worth exploring before leaving to see the many awesome sites in Croatia. In addition to walking its charming old town, there are plenty of things to see and do in Zagreb. It’s full of beautiful historical architecture, has a lively nightlife on its famous Tkalciceva Street, a great cafe culture, tons of unique and interesting museums, as well as opportunities for hiking and more. Zagreb is also a great place to experience genuine Croatian culture as it’s located away from its top tourist spots. This post covers the best things to see and do…

Best Spots In Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice Lakes National Park is an absolute stunner, with its 16 cascading, interconnected, multi-hued, lakes and over 90 waterfalls. This must-see Croatian park, located between Zagreb and Zadar, is an UNESCO World Heritage site and a natural wonderland. With more than 73,000 acres of protected land, it’s also big, so plan to spend at least a half day here. With 7 different trails, that range from 1.8 miles (3km) to 11 miles (18km) in length, three entrances and two ferry points, understanding the layout can be a little confusing. And although there is signage, directions are still somewhat vague. I spent a day and a half wandering here and created…

The island of Hvar, with its diverse beauty and rich history, is about an hour ferry ride from Split, making it an ideal day trip in Croatia (although staying two or three is even better). Top Things To Do In Split

In the 4th century AD, Roman Emperor Diocletian chose Split to build his retirement Palace. He chose well, as, like much if Croatia, this area is stunning. Split is idyllic, set on a picturesque bay with mesmerizing Mediterranean views, surrounded by pine-forested mountains, and close to incredible islands along the Dalmatian coast. Today, the ruins of Diocletian’s Palace are known as the world’s most complete Roman Palace remains. Visiting the palace is not only one of the top things to do in Split, you really can’t miss it, as it also takes up most of Split’s historic core. The palace isn’t the only attraction here though. There’s also the lively…

Julie

Hello!

I resigned from a corporate career in product design & development to explore the world. Although my goal was to travel for a year, 8 years later, I’ve been honored to have explored 65 gorgeous countries and met some incredible people. Our world truly is a beautiful place!

If you wonder how I came up with the name Gorgeous Unknown, it’s from this Anthony Bourdain quote, “Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.”

This is so true for me. I adore exploring new places, meeting people from different cultures, and trying new foods.

So follow me into the gorgeous unknown by subscribing below. You’ll receive details on my favorite destinations, detailed travel guides, tips and more.
